"What do you treat?"

"What is the cost?"
The cost varies depending on location, clinician, and duration of appointment. Please phone 0845 2601520 for an up-to-date price list

"Will my health insurance cover the cost?"
Most health insurance policies cover osteopathy, but not massage or exercise therapy. If in any doubt, please contact your insurer before attending for your first appointment, as some policies stipulate that you must be referred by your GP - this should not be a problem as Drs are encouraged to refer to osteopaths by both the General Medical Council and the British Medical Association.

"What should I wear?"
You may be asked to remove some clothing so that we can examine and treat you thoroughly. If you would like to bring some shorts to wear rather than be in your underwear, please do so.

"What should I expect?"
On your first visit a thorough history of your problem and your general medical health will be asked for. You will be examined thoroughly (this may include parts of you that you are not complaining about as we take a "holistic" approach). We will explain what we believe to be wrong with you and how this may have come about. We will also explain how we can help (if we can) with this problem and offer you some immediate advice. Providing there is time, we will also provide some treatment on this first appointment.

"Is a Doctor's referral necessary?"
No, you do not have to be referred by your doctor. See health insurance above.

"Are there any side effects?"
It is possible that you may feel tender for a day or so after you are treated - this is fairly normal.

"Does it hurt?"
Both osteopathy and massage sometimes employ techniques which can cause tenderness.

"How much treatment will I need?"
This usually depends on the length of time you have had the problem. All we can say with any cetainty is that the average number of osteopathic treatments patient have at activex clinics is 3.1. Patients often opt for maintenance osteopathy or massage (or a mix of both), beyond the resolution of their initial problem.
